Supported by the HSE, this course aims to assist Responsible Persons to meet their legal obligations with regard to maintaining an asset register and implementing a practical approach to the inspection and maintenance of equipment in explosive atmospheres utilising IEC 60079 Parts 14 and 17 and offering the basis of best practice.

Content

  • Legal requirements and application of relevant standards.

  • Requirements of 60079-14 and 60079-17

  • Ignition sources and practical understanding of explosion protection principles and techniques.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of relevant standards in explosion protection such as IEC 60079 Parts 10-1; 10-2; 14, 17 and safe working procedures for explosive atmospheres.

  • Inspection and remedial action strategy.

  • Competency criteria and assessment for persons undertaking installation, maintenance and inspection activities.

  • Overview of IEC 60079-19 – repair.

Objectives

  • To assist Responsible Persons to meet legal obligations with regard to maintaining an asset register & implementing a practical approach to inspection & maintenance of equipment in ex atmospheres utilising IEC 60079 Parts 14 & 17.
